Terms of Us
1. What this is
The Whole Roster is a free platform where people submit their own personal sports stories to be published on the site and shared on our social media channels. There is no cost to submit, no cost to read, and no purchase required to participate.
2. Who can submit
Anyone with a real sports story to tell is welcome to submit, at any level of competition. There is no cost or membership required.
If you are under 18: you'll be asked to provide a parent or guardian's name and email address when you submit. We will not publish your story until we receive confirmation from your parent or guardian that they're aware of and okay with the submission. This applies regardless of whether you choose to submit under your real name, a chosen alias, or anonymously.
3. How your name appears
When you submit, you choose how you're credited: your real name, an alias you provide, or fully anonymous. We will not change how your story is credited without your permission, and this choice can be updated later by contacting us.
4. What you're agreeing to when you submit
By submitting a story, you confirm that:
-
It's your own story and your own words (not copied or plagiarized from someone else)
-
Everything in it is true to your own experience and knowledge
-
You have the right to share it, including anything you say about real people, teams, or events
You grant The Whole Roster a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to publish your story on the website and to share it (including excerpts, quotes, or graphics drawn from it) on our own social media channels. You keep full ownership of your own story. If we ever want to use your story somewhere beyond the site and our own social channels, such as print, a documentary, or licensing it to a third party, we will ask for your separate permission first.
5. Editing
We may lightly edit submissions for clarity, grammar, or length before publishing. For stories we think could benefit from more substantial rewriting, we may offer to help polish it, but we will always show you the edited version and get your approval before anything goes live.
6. What we won't publish
We reserve the right to decline or remove any submission, including but not limited to:
-
Hate speech or content that discriminates based on race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or similar
-
Specific accusations of criminal conduct, abuse, or misconduct against a named individual, unless you are describing your own direct experience, and even then such content will get additional review before publishing
-
Sexual or explicit content
-
Content whose main purpose is to attack, humiliate, or bully a specific named person
-
Plagiarized material
-
Spam or promotional content unrelated to a personal athletic story
We'll try to let you know if we decline a submission and why, when possible.
7. Requesting removal
You can ask at any time to have your story removed or re-anonymized after it's published. We'll honor that request without requiring an explanation.
8. No compensation
Submitting a story is voluntary and unpaid. The Whole Roster is not currently operated for profit, and submitting a story does not entitle you to any payment, revenue share, or ownership stake, now or in the future, except as separately agreed in writing (for example, if we later license a story for a different use as described in Section 4).
9. Content is personal opinion and experience
Stories published on The Whole Roster reflect the personal experiences, memories, and opinions of the individual contributors. We do not independently verify every factual claim in a submitted story, and publishing a story does not mean we're confirming every detail in it is accurate.
10. Your information
We collect the email address (and, for minors, a parent or guardian's contact information) you provide when submitting. This is used only to confirm receipt of your story, follow up about its status, and, where applicable, obtain guardian confirmation. We do not sell this information. (A full privacy policy should be added here before public launch.)
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site grows. The current version will always be posted here, and material changes will be noted.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms, a submission, or a removal request can be sent to [contact email].
Privacy & Data Protection
We are committed to protecting your privacy and the integrity of your athletic narrative. At Roster of Us, we handle all user data with the utmost sensitivity. Your personal information is used solely to facilitate your journey of sharing and to maintain the trust within our global community. We prioritize transparency and security to ensure every story you contribute remains safe and secure.
